NEW ULM - New Ulm Police Department (NUPD) with the assistance of several other law enforcement agencies was able to arrest an individual suspected of arson Friday, following a two-hour standoff outside an apartment on Minnesota Street.
Chad Allen Chaney, 53, was taken into custody around 4:57 p.m. Friday after initially barricading himself in his second-floor apartment at 223 N. Minnesota Street.
At 2:30 p.m. New Ulm Police Officers came to Chaney's apartment to arrest him on probable cause for arson. Police made contact with Chaney, but he refused to open his door and remained non-compliant. Due to the high level of charges, NUPD called in additional resources to assist with the arrest, including a tactical team.
NUPD Sgt. Brady Murphy said that fortunately a police negotiator was able to convince Chaney to come out of his apartment and surrender.
Murphy said they were able to take Chaney into custody without and injuries or damage to property.
