NEW ULM – Brown County received 80 early voting ballots deposited into the tabulator at the Brown County Courthouse Friday as early voting commenced.
According to Brown County Auditor Treasurer Kelly Hotovec, Brown County is utilizing the early voting system more than surrounding counties.
"We were talking to other counties and when they were at two to ten ballots we were already at 27," Hotovec said.
Early voting refers to the 18 days before the election where voters can cast their votes in person, similar to how they would on Election Day.
"Brown County has offered tabulator for several elections so I think people know that process is available," Hotovec said.
To complete early voting, Brown County residents can go to room 206 of the Brown County Courthouse. Once there, voters can fill out the ballot and place it directly into the ballot counter.
Early voting does not equate to early results.
"We will not close the polls and print the results until after 8 p.m. on Election Day," Hotovec said. "We don't know the results early."
For absentee voting, however, processing will begin Saturday.
Brown County currently sits at roughly 900 absentee ballots by envelope, as of Thursday.
Hotovec says absentee voting continues to grow in popularity due to increased awareness, convenience, and accessibility. Absentee voting began September 18.
Both early voting and absentee voting will continue through Monday, November 2.
What's on the ballot this year?
In Brown County, the following will be voted on: Federal Senator and Representative, State Senator for District 15, State Representative for District 15B, school board members, town supervisors, city office positions, state executive office positions, county office positions, judicial office positions, and a state constitutional amendment regarding the increase of funding for school districts.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Information on voting can be found at https://vote411.org/
