Sellner, Coudron Princess Kay finalists

Likenesses to be sculpted in state fair butter next week

Jena Hanson a 20-year-old college student from Owatonna, representing Steele County, was crowned the 73rd Princess Kay of the Milky Way in an evening ceremony Aug. 26. Hanson’s will have her likeness sculpted in a 90-pound block of butter the first two days of the Minnesota State Fair – Thursday, Aug. 27, and Friday, Aug. 28. Minnesota artist and butter sculptor Gerry Kulzer will also be carving sculptures of finalists Gracie Sellner of Sleepy Eye, representing Brown County and Elizabeth Coudron, Milroy, representing Redwood County.

ST. PAUL -- Princess Kay of the Milky Way finalists Gracie Sellner of Sleepy Eye and Elizabeth Coudron of Milroy are scheduled to have their likenesses sculpted in butter at the Minnesota State Fair next week.

Sellner, representing Brown County, will be sculpted Wednesday, Sept. 2. Coudron, representing Redwood County, will be sculpted Sunday, Sept. 6.

Jena Hanson, 20, of Owatonna, representing Steele County, was crowned the 73rd Princess Kay of the Milky Way at the state fairgrounds Wednesday.

Hanson will serve as the official goodwill ambassador for nearly 1,500 Minnesota dairy farm families. Ten Minnesota dairy princesses competed for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way title. Stearns County representatives Isabella Schiffler of Albany and Jaiden Smith of Melrose, were selected as runners-up.

Princess Kay candidates are judged on their general knowledge of the dairy industry, communication skills and enthusiasm for dairy. The program is funded by dairy farmers through their promotion checkoff.
