NEW ULM -- Brown County Commissioners unanimously approved auctioning off of two properties forfeited to the State of Minnesota for non-payment of taxes Tuesday.
The auction of the two parcels of land to the highest bidder will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2, at the Brown County Courthouse.
The parcels include 207 South Broadway in New Ulm with an assessed value of $146,300 and minimum bid of $10,383.69; and 415 Maple St. S.W. in Sleepy Eye with an assessed value of $39,400 and minimum bid of $3,706.92.
Earnest money in the amount of $500 is required on parcels with a sale price over $1,000. This helps to ensure purchasers will complete paperwork to transfer parcels to their names.
Sales must occur within six months of either the filing of the certificate of forfeiture or date the property is vacated by the occupant, whichever is later.
Parcels not sold will be offered for over-the-counter sales for a period of 30 days. At the end of the 30-day period, remaining unsold parcels will be offered for sale for the minimum bid during a sealed bid auction beginning Nov. 9.
The land sale was unanimously approved on a motion by Commissioner Tony Berg, seconded by Jeff Veerkamp.
