NEW ULM -- A five-year-old rural Springfield boy pedal-pulled his tractor 30 feet, winning his age group at the Brown County Kid's Tractor Pull Friday.

Tyler Janni's pull-through effort topped more than a dozen 5-year-olds.

"He works hard at it," said Tyler's mother Lori Janni. "He gets up at 6 a.m. every day, puts a cement block behind his tractor and pedals it around before going to day care."

Earlier this summer, Janni won a pedal pull in Springfield and finished second at Farmfest. He qualifies for the state contest Sept. 12 at the Redwood Falls Community Center.

Ramsey Sellner of New Ulm won the 11-year-old division, pulling farther than the boys.

"She bicycles, plays softball and dances," said her mother.

The top three finishers in each age group qualify for the state championship event.

Four-year-old qualifiers finishing first, second and third respectively were Elijah Andrews, Miles Espinoza and Vivian Schaefer. Age 5, Tyler Janni, Jameson Meyer, Rylee Nott. Age 6, Memphis Sellner, Gavin Fischer, Isabel Achman. Age 7, Levi Dauer, Peyton Pelzel, Wyatt Helget. Age 8, Vincent Braulick, Jaxon Janni, Alex Stadick.
