Wersal, Lax win Game Class championships

NEW ULM -- Two Sleepy Eye girls who said they like the speed of barrel races won Games class titles at the Brown County Fair 4-H Horse Show Wednesday.
Kenadi Wersal was Games Class Senior Grand Champion competed in most events in the horse show. She won the barrel, keyhole and jumping figure 8 races and was Pleasure Class Senior Reserve Champion.
"Barrels is definitely my favorite event," she said. "I like going fast. The speed of it is fun."
A member of the Leavenworth Golden Ridge Riders 4-H club, she also shows dogs at the fair.
"I like everything about horses. I brought "Kat," my Quarter Horse and my pony that my brother rides," she said. "Hopefully, I'm going to the state fair to compete. I've been there twice before, finishing near the top each time."
Millie Lax was Games Class Senior Reserve Champion.
Calleigh Frederickson of New Ulm won the Pleasure Class and Showmanship Senior Grand Championships despite competing in horse shows for the first time this year.
"I competed in every class that I could," she said. "I won most of the Pleasure Classes but I like Games Class the most because I like going faster and don't need as much patience. I like riding and working with horses. The competition was pretty decent. I liked it."
She also shows dairy cattle, rabbits and competes in trap shooting for the Milford 4-H Club.
Other horse show winners were Showmanship and Pleasure Junior Grand Champion Monica Halbur, Pleasure Class Intermediate Grand Champion D'Lyla Todd, Games Intermediate Grand Champion and Intermediate Pleasure Reserve Champion Avery Steffl, and Games Junior Reserve Champion Aisley Dow.
The 4-H Horse Fun Show begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the county fair arena.
