NEW ULM -- Most Brown County primary election polling places will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Voters can register on Election Day by bringing approved proof of identity and residence.
Before voting, residents are encouraged to verify or update their voter registration, find their polling place, view their sample ballot and learn about voting options.
Office races on state primary ballots include U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative District 1 or District 7, depending on precinct, District 15B State Representative, governor and lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state auditor and attorney general.
Primary elections determine which candidates will be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.
Voters can only vote for one political party in primary elections. Votes for candidates from more than one political party will not count.
Absentee voting began June 26. Early voting started July 24. Both options continue through Monday.
As of Friday morning, the Brown County Election Office received 999 absentee voting ballots since June 26. In addition, 95 direct voting ballots were received since June 26.
Registered Brown County voters who live in mail ballot precincts were automatically mailed a ballot. Voters must carefully follow ballot packet instructions including witness requirements when applicable.
Completed absentee and mail ballots may be returned using the prepaid return envelope or delivered to the Brown County Elections Office.
The deadline for absentee voters returning their own ballot or having another person return it on their behalf is 5 p.m., Tuesday.
The deadline for mail ballot precinct ballots, ballots returned through the U.S. Postal Service or courier services, and ballots returned by agent is 8 p.m., Tuesday.
Individuals returning a ballot on behalf of someone can deliver no more than three ballots, must show ID, and must sign the agent delivery roster.
Brown County polling times are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Burnstown and North Star Townships at the Springfield American Legion, 5 N. O'Connell Ave., Springfield.
The Comfrey Community Center, 120 Brown St. E. for City of Comfrey voters, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Bashaw Township.
Morgan Fire Hall, 405 Front St, Morgan, 10 a.m. - 8 pm.. for Eden Township.
Leavenworth Town Hall, 30741 County Road 24, Sleepy Eye, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. for Leavenworth Township. Milford Town Hall, 24924 Main St. Essig, 7 a.m. - 8 p.m., for Milford Township.
New Ulm Ward 1 - Precincts 1 & 2, Redeemer Lutheran Church, 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. New Ulm Ward 2 – Precincts 1 & 2, New Ulm Community Center, 600 N. German St. 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. New Ulm Ward 3 - Precincts 1 & 2, Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Mail ballot and Absentee (AB) voting, Brown County Courthouse, 14 S. State St., New Ulm. Regular voting hours 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
Mail ballot precincts for the cities of Cobden, Evan and Hanska and townships of Albin, Cottonwood, Home, Lake Hanska, Linden, Mulligan, Prairieville, Sigel, Stark and Stately is open 46 days prior to each election. Absentee/Mail ballots can be returned until 8 p.m. Election Day.
Direct balloting, an alternative in-person absentee voting procedure where a voter can cast their ballot directly into the ballot counter is offered the last 18 days prior to Election Day.
The Brown County Auditor/Treasurer Office, room 206, will be open for mail ballot precincts from 7 a.m - 8 p.m. to vote using mail ballot or ballot counter procedures.
