Highway 111, Fort Road roundabout project begins Aug. 3

KLOSSNER -- Construction crews removed detour signs as the State Highway 15/Fort Road (CR 5) roundabout opened at 10 a.m. Friday.
Traffic was detoured since May 18 for the single-lane roundabout intended to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and upgrade lighting and drainage.
Construction of a single-lane roundabout at State Highway 111 and CR 5, several miles east of Klossner, is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 3 and continue to late October.
The project with added lighting, drainage and a snow fence, includes a detour via County Roads 15, 3, 5, 13, and Highway 99.
Roundabouts reduce fatal crashes by up to 90%, and cuts injury crashes by about 75%, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).
R & E Enterprise of Mankato, Inc. was awarded both roundabout projects with a bid of $6,210,896.85.
Roundabout project funding was awarded from the MnDOT High Risk Rural Roads program created to improve safety at rural highway intersections.
Motorists should note that the Fort Road (Nicollet CR 5), remains closed to through traffic between State Highway 15 and Nicollet CXR 12 for a separate county highway project.
