NU School board candidate filing begins Tuesday

NEW ULM – On Tuesday the window for candidates to file for the New Ulm School board election opens.

Any candidate who wishes to have their name on the ballot for school board during the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election must file an affidavit of candidacy with the school district’s clerk’s office in the New Ulm Middle School in the two week period between July 14 and July 28.

This filing period is for all Minnesota school districts that do not hold a primary.

This year, the school district will have three seats up for election on the board. The seats are currently held by Steve Gag, Amanda Groebner, and Melissa Sunderman. Each term is for four years.

To be eligible as a New Ulm school board candidate, it is required the candidate be an eligible voter in the district. Residency within the school district must be maintained, beginning at least 30 days prior to seeking election. The candidate must also be 21-years-old by the time they would assume office in January 2027.
