NEW ULM – Street crews began a seal coating project Tuesday morning on Downtown Minnesota Street.
In May, New Ulm Public Works removed and replaced the last brick crosswalks in the downtown in preparation for the summer seal coating on Minnesota Street from 7th North to 3rd South Street.
New Ulm Public Works Superintendent Jeff Hoffmann said crews completed seal coating from 4th North to 2nd North and Center to 3rd South Tuesday morning. The two blocks between 2nd North and Center Street will be completed later in August following the annual Spikin’ in the Street sand volleyball tournament.
Hoffmann said work crews will come through Minnesota Street Wednesday morning to remove any excess rock leftover from the sealcoating. Within the next two weeks, after the new pavement layer settles and dries, crews will come back to repaint parking stripes on the road.
Hoffmann said the last time downtown Minnesota Street was seal coated was nine years ago.
