Highway 22 project detour resumes April 15
Highway 169 Jordan interchange project continues
MANKATO — The Minnesota Department of Transportation 2026 road construction season includes more than 200 projects improving and maintaining state roads, bridges and other transportation infrastructure improving safety and mobility.
Large projects include the Highway 22 detour between St. Peter and Mankato is expected to resume Wednesday, April 15 as crews begin the final year of project construction, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Through traffic will be detoured to Highways 14 and 169. The new roundabout at Highway 22 and Le Sueur CR 21 will remain open to local traffic. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained during construction.
Construction is forecast to continue until fall 2026.
Project benefits include improved pavement, increased safety and traffic flow, and future multi-use trail accommodations. Mathiowetz Construction Company was awarded the project with a bid of $36,896.56.
The public is invited to a construction open house, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7 at MnDOT, 2151 Bassett Dr., Mankato. There will be no former presentation. MnDOT staff and the contractor will answer questions about the project, construction timelines and detour routes.
Other 2026 projects include:
• The Veterans Memorial Bridge at Highway 169/Belgrade Avenue interchange will be reconstructed this year. Traffic will be detoured as ramps, signals and sidewalk will be replaced.
• The State Highway 93 grade raise project from Henderson to Highway 169 includes raising the highway eight feet, putting it one foot above historic high-water events. Two bridges will be replaced. Highway 93 traffic will be detoured during construction.
• Sibley County received flood mitigation funding for County Road 6. Project work includes replacing the Rush River Bridge and building an additional overflow bridge for Rush River flood relief.
• The Highway 169/Highway 282 interchange in Jordan continues this year. Highway 169 is reduced to one lane in both directions between Highway 21 and Highway 282 through late July.
• The Minnesota Department of Transportation is partnering with the City of Jordan and Scott County on a new Highway 169, Highway 282 and CR 9 interchange, two bridges over Hwy. 169 and railroad tracks, two roundabouts, a pedestrian tunnel, sidewalks, retaining walls, and noise walls.
• A two-year project to reconstruct Highway 22 and Highway 109 in Wells includes replacing utilities for improved bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.
