Two Sleepy Eye fire victims at HCMC
SLEEPY EYE — The name of a 29-year-old woman injured in a Thursday house fire on the 700 block of 3rd Avenue N.E. in Sleepy Eye was released by Sleepy Eye Police Friday.
The woman was identified as Katie Rehbein. She remains listed in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) due to smoke inhalation and extensive burns, according to Sleepy Eye Police Investigator Shawn Bohnen.
Rehbein’s 3-year-old son is also at HCMC. His condition was listed as guarded Thursday and was not updated Friday.
Four other occupants of the house that was extensively damaged in the fire — Mindi Rehbein, 56; 11 and 6 year old males and an 8-year-old female were treated and released from Sleepy Eye Medical Center.
Sleepy Eye Police and Fire Departments and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the residential fire at 7:01 a.m. Thursday. Two citizens were assisting occupants out of the fully-engulfed home when police and firefighters arrived.
Officers learned Katie Rehbein was still inside the burning home. Firefighters immediately entered the home and removed her from the house.
The fire source is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal, Sleepy Eye Police and Fire Departments.
Police do not have any other confirmed medical information for any of the fire victims. Further information regarding the victims and the fire source will be updated as the investigation proceeds.
