Woman critical after Sleepy Eye house fire

SLEEPY EYE — A 29-year-old woman was listed in critical condition and a three-year-old male child in guarded condition in Twin Cities medical facilities following a house fire that caused extensive damage Thursday.
Sleepy Eye Police, the Sleepy Eye Fire Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at 7:01 a.m. to the 700 block of 3rd Avenue N.E. for a residential fire. Two citizens were assisting occupants out of the fully engulfed home when police and firefighters arrived.
Officers learned a 29-year-old woman was still inside the residence. Firefighters immediately entered the home and removed the woman, according to Sleepy Eye Police Investigator Shawn Bohnen.
The woman and a three-year-old male were transported to Sleepy Eye Medical Center by Sleepy Eye Ambulance, then flown to a Twin Cities medical facility for further treatment.
The other four occupants of the home, a 56 year-old woman, 11-year-old male, eight-year-old female and a six year-old male were transported to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center.
Investigator Bohnen said house fire damage was extensive. The fire is an active investigation by the State Fire Marshal, Sleepy Eye Police and Fire Departments. Investigators are working to determine the fire cause. Further information including the victims’ condition will be updated as the investigation proceeds.
