Nicollet City Council approves retirement rate for fire relief association

The Nicollet City Council approve the Nicollet Fire Relief Association Retirement Rate during the June 10 meeting.

After discussion, the council approved the retirement rate to $3,400 per year of service rate. It will require a $0 mandatory contribution. The 2025 deferred interest rate will be 2% which is no change from 2023.

In other news, some personnel issues were discussed and approved. Part-time maintenance worker, Josh Anderson, wage was set at $31.73 per hour for Monday through Friday and $47.59 for Saturday or Sunday. The Personnel Committee, Kevin Ostermann and Mary Wels, were authorized to negotiate a salary with a prospective applicant for a city position, and the personnel policy was approved.

The council approved the 2023 Audit that was presented to the council by Layne Kockelman of Abdo Accounting and Consulting Services of Mankato.

The auditor did give the following recommendations: “We recommend the City update policies and accounting procedures including, but not limited to, implementing fund balance, capital asset and investment policies. Furthermore, we recommend the City specifically adopt written policies and procedures addressing the use of Federal dollars in accordance with the Uniform Guidance requirements.”

Cabin Bar

The council welcomed Lyna Baggenstoss, the new owner of the Cabin Bar, as she was present to introduce herself to the council and let them know that the bar/grill will continue to operate as it has in the past.

Sidewalk on Hwy 111/Flashing Light

Discussion continued regarding the flashing light for the 6th Street and 3rd Street intersections on Highway 111. No new decisions were made. The project is still a work in process.

Meeting Dates

The Public Hearing on new TIF will be 6 p.m. Monday, July 8 with the regular council meeting to follow at 6:15 p.m. The Public Hearing for Stickney Hill Ingredients was rescheduled to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 10. This is for an after the fact variance.
