After a busy holiday season and while the theater is dark for the month of January, a merry band of volunteers gathered for Spruce Up Saturday at State Street Theater Co.
This annual event takes advantage of the timing to do a lot of cleaning up the theater. Making the day more exciting was the opportunity to see the new chairs and improvements that have been made in just the last few weeks.
Mary Ellen Domeier spoke for organization's leadership and said "these volunteers are taking ownership of the community theater and see it as an asset to care about".
Volunteers spent the morning sorting props, cleaning up backstage and organizing theater materials. The theater provides morning treats and pizza lunch to show appreciation for the volunteer time and effort. The theater opens up in February with a Prince tribute on February 10 and family favorite, The Jolly Pops, on February 24.
