NUHS Class of 1949 reunites
NEW ULM — The New Ulm High School Class of 1949 held a reunion for its 74th year at the Pizza Ranch Friday.
Eight class members attended the reunion that has been held annually in recent years. The class numbered 109 at graduation. Thirty-two reunion invitations were sent prior to the event.
Ferne Davis said going to New Ulm High School in the 1940s was something she won’t forget.
“I went from the farm to the big school. It was a big change,” said Davis. “My twin sister (the late Florene Aspelund) and I lived at the Wanda Gag House during the school week and went home on weekends.”
“It was a wonderful school. Music, being a Turner (German-American gymnastic club member) and FFA were very important,” said Carol Kramer, who now lives in Hector.
Agnes Griffiths said she loved the Class of 1949.
“It was the greatest class, very friendly. We’re all still friends. We had excellent teachers,” said Griffiths.
A number of other class reunions are being held this weekend as New Ulm celebrates HermannFest at Harman Park and Hermann Heights.
