Optimist Club photo contest winners named
The winners of the Optmist Club photography contest were announced Tuesday. Those who submitted photos to the contest posed with their photograph following the award ceremony. L to R: Helen Fischer, Elizabeth Fischer, Teresa Fischer, Kaden Leighty, Aiden Altmann and Connor Leonard.
NEW ULM — The Optimist Club of New Ulm announced the winners of their youth photography contest.
The contest was held in two age divisions; Grade 5-8 and Grades 9-12. The goal of the contest was to take a photo the best represents a part of the Optimist Creed.
Each photo submitted was required to be matted and include a line from the creed. Members of The Optimist Club would rank the photos based on which best represented the chosen line.
In Grades 5-8, the winners were:
Fourth, Elizabeth Fischer, 11, for her Block tower photo.
Third, Aiden Altmann, 10, for his Boy with truck photo
Second, Connor Leonard, 12, for his Fawn photo
First, Kaden Leighty, 10, for his Girl at Park photo.
In Grades 9-12, the winners were winners:
Second, Teresa Fischer, 15, for her Glow bracelent hands photo.
First, Helen Fischer, 17, for her Notebook photo.
The Optimist Club also held a “People’s Choice” award. Anyone from the public was allowed to vote for their favorite photo on Facebook or through QR code at library, where photos were displayed.
Liz Altmann said in the People’s Choice category, the voting was extremely close with only a two vote difference. The Optimist Club agreed to give the prize to Kaden Leighty (girl at park photo) and Connor Leonard (fawn photo).
