On Saturday morning, Brown County 4-H Swine Show took place at the fairgrounds.

The event began by recognizing the newcomers of 4-H. Beginner kits were gifted to the new members by the Nate Potter memorial.

Following the introduction, the judging for the swine show began.

The judge of the event was Matthew Strobel. Strobel grew up on a farm near Pemberton and has been judging for three years.

The Cloverbud group went first, showing off their swines.

After the Cloverbud group, the Breeding Swine category competed. In this category was registered January Breeding Gilt, registered February Breeding Gilt, and the three classes of Crossbred Breeding Gilts.

One winner was picked from each Breeding Gilt category.

Winner for the January Breeding Gilt was Britta Schmidt.

Winner for the February Breeding Gilt was Stella Schieffert.

Winner for the Crossbred Breeding Gilt class one was Addison Lang.

Winner for the Crossbred Breeding Gilt class two was Kiera Lafferty.

Winner for the Crossbred Breeding Gilt class three was Aubree Schmidt.

The winning swine were described as sound and elegant, big, and stout.

After the judging of each category was finished, the five winners from each Breeding Gilt category competed for the Champion Breeding Gilt title.

The champion of the breeding gilt category was Aubree Schmidt.

“It was fun,” Schmidt said, “I like seeing the progression from piglets to big gilts.”

The same process was done with the other categories in the Swine Show, Market Gilt category, Purebred Barrow category, and Crossbred Barrow category.

Champion of the Market Gilt category was Olivia Hammer.

Champion of the Purebred Barrow category was also Olivia Hammer.

Champion of the Crossbred Barrow category was Aubree Schmidt.

Other events were the Pen of Three event with Paige Green, Abigail Jensen, Kiera Lafferty, Kaden Olsen, and Aubree Schmidt participating, and the Club Truckload event.

Finishing up the day were the showmanship events, which were moved to the end. Showmanship started with the senior grades, and followed with the younger grades.

Overall, the Swine Show was a success, with judge Strobel stating it was the most competitive county fair he had seen in a long time.
