NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Foundation recognized donors at Rush Rooftop Restaurant, 126 N. Minnesota St. Tuesday.

“We couldn’t have picked a better day to hold this outside,” said Foundation President Gene Clark. “Our goal today is to interact with our board and better understand what we’re doing as a foundation. Your generosity over the years has made New Ulm a significantly better place.”

Clark invited members to join foundation grant committees.

“We always wish we had more people on them. Here is your opportunity to ask about them,” Clark said.

“We want to say thank you to all of you,” said Foundation Executive Director John Illikman. “This is our donor recognition event. To score an invitation to this, we looked at our donation list from from our last event, held in November 2021.

“We really appreciate your contributions that aren’t to us, but are back to the community,” Illikman said. “All the contributions are invested here. The dividends and interest go to grants to all the different organizations here. Thank you for thinking about your community and thinking about all the beautiful things you’re experienced with your family here in New Ulm. It really is a great community, in the past and for new things like this facility.

“Congratulations and thank you to Eric (Bode) and BoCo Real Estate for opening up for us,” said Illikman. “We want to be on the cutting edge, looking forward to new things.”

The mission of New Ulm Area Foundation, a non-profit corporation, supports the quality of life in ISD 88 and to address community needs by growing endowment funds and providing financial grants from fund earnings.

All funds and new contributions are locally managed. Foundation funds include the Somsen Fund, Macklin Fund, Nuvera Fund and Dr. James and Jane Seifert Fund. In addition, the foundation holds the Charlotte Raymond Anderson Teaching Scholarship Fund, and a general scholarship, operations and general endowment fund.
