Strongman, country music star part of Brown Co. Fair lineup

NEW ULM -- The Brown County Fair will return Wednesday, Aug. 9 and run through Sunday, Aug. 13.
This will be the 155th Brown County Fair. Attendees can expect regular attractions including, carnival rides, 4-H exhibits and the demolition derby but this year the fair has added some new events and attractions.
Brown County Fair Board is three new entertainment attraction promoting the Strong Man demonstration, RC racing system and country music performances.
The Strong Man demonstrations will feature professional strong man John Beaty as he demonstrates various feats of strength. He will hold three free daily shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. His shows will include audience participation. His last performance on Saturday will feature Beaty pulling two truck down the fairgrounds midway.
The RC Car Racing System will be open to the public each day. A special track for radio controlled cars will be setup. The track is built as a replica of the Indy 500 race track. The radio controlled cars are built to 1/10th scale of typical NASCAR.
Families will be able to compete to set the best timed lap with the RC vehicles. Racers will be given a set time period to complete the most laps. Six individuals can race at one time.
"The fair board fell in love with [RC cars] at the annual fair convention," Brown County Free Fair Ag Society Secretary Candice Stadick said. Though she admitted the younger children caught on to driving the radio controlled vehicles faster than adults.
The RC track will be located next to Grandstands or Pork Producers under a tent. The track will be sponsored by Jenson Motors
This year's musical entertainment will be held Friday, Aug. 11 in the Grand Stands featuring country music acts Ricochet and Sara Evans. Ricochet will perform 7 p.m. Friday, followed by Sara Evans at 9 p.m.
Stadick said the fair board is building off of past music acts held at the fairgrounds. In recent years the musical entertainment was moved from Thursday to Friday. Audiences have an easier time attending a Friday evening show.
Ricochet's performance will feature the band's original lead singer Heath Wright and include their hit songs "Daddy's Money" and "What Do I Know."
Sara Evans is known for her songs "No Place That Far," "Suds in the Bucket," "A Real Fine Place to Start," "Born to Fly" and "A Little Bit Stronger." The Country Music Association recently awarded Evans Video of the Year honors for "Born to Fly."
Stadick said one of the inspiration for bringing country music back to the county fair was an article appearing The Journal's history pages. This year marked the 50th anniversary of Loretta Lynn performing at the Brown County Fair.
Stadick said 50 years ago, Brown County Fair had one of the top woman of country music and this year they were bringing the tradition back.
The Brown County Fair begins Wednesday, Aug. 9. Senior Day is Thursday, Aug. 10. At 10 a.m. special Senior Day program will be held at the Civic Center and Demo Derby at 7 p.m. Kids Day follows Friday, Aug. 11 and "Dock Dogs" will be returning to the fairgrounds. The second demo derby is 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. Sunday, Aug. 13 is the last day of the fair is Schell's Day. A special auction to raise money for the New Ulm Fire Department will be held in the Entertainment Hall starting at 1 p.m. with a performance from Alpensterne.
