NEW ULM -- New Ulm Crazy Days and the Gibbon Funfest continue through Sunday in both communities.
Crazy Days begins Friday with downtown sidewalk sales and in-store discounts all over town on stylish clothing, unique gifts, home decor among other items. Minnesota Street will be closed Saturday for Crazy Days events.
A ping pong ball drop takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday at Inspire Wedding & Event Center, 126 N. Minnesota St.
“More than 800 ping pong balls will be thrown off the roof with $300 in Chamber Dollars, freebies and discounts. Two shoppers will win $50 each," said New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce Officer Manager Crystal Johnson.
"More than 40, local, handcrafted vendors will be set up on Minnesota Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday," said Johnson.
Food trucks will be downtown and at Black Frost Distilling Saturday. A farmers market on German Street will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The popcorn wagon will appear outside the Brown County Museum Annex from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kiesling House, 220 N. Minnesota St., New Ulm Battery member, re-enactor and period rifle competition shooter John Fritsche will demonstrate how 1860s armament was assembled, cleaned and prepared for use. Period firearms and related memorabilia will be on display.
Gibbon Funfest continues with a wide range of events Friday through Sunday.
"We're very excited. We've got lots of music and other events happening every day. We've got multiple food trucks coming to town. We're supposed to have a beautiful weekend," said Gibbon Funfest Committee President Jan Schwarzrock.
Food trucks will feature tacos, mini donuts, shakes, burgers, pizza and asian food, among other items.
Events starting at 6 p.m. in city park Friday include a co-ed sand volleyball tournament, kids sidewalk chalk fun and a pie social and hot sandwiches. A Gibbon Reds community kickball game for all ages starts at 6 p.m. at McGowan Field. The Gibbon Area Uncommmon Band of Renown performs at 6 p.m.
An 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. street dance features "Some Shi**Y Cover Band." All beer wagon tips support the Gibbon Fire Dept. Fireworks begin at dusk at the old football field.
Saturday events include a wiffle ball tournament for ages 18 and up beginning at 9 a.m. Bingo begins in the city park white tent at 11 a.m. A pedal pull starts at 11:30 a.m.
Fire truck rides, kids water events and a grain bin rescue demonstration takes place 1-4 p.m.
Dain's Dutchmen will perform 2-5 p.m. in the city park. A street dance with music by 2nd Notion is set for 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church hosts a 10 a.m. Sunday service in the city park. A Lions pork chop dinner is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. The Leon Olsen Show performs 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A classic car show and parade is set for 1-3 p.m. Child and adult musical chairs begins at 7:30 p.m. in the city park.
