NICOLLET -- It was three days of fun, food and friendship as Nicollet held its annual Friendship Days over the weekend.
There was something for everyone.
The weekend started on Friday with the Petting Zoo in the city's park along with food stands and a beer garden being open and ready to serve guests. There were many activities throughout the weekend: bounce house, mechanical bull, Escape Room, Virtual Shooting Range, kickball tournament, Dad's Belgian Waffles, Kiddie Parade, cornhole tournament, Kids' Pedal Pull, bingo and more.
A bike drawing for kids under 12 was held in the park on two evenings. The winner of the bicycle on Friday was 2-year-old Adalina Roos, daughter of Priscilla and Karl Roos of Mankato.
On Saturday, the winner of the bicycle was 5-year-old Chloe Rose, daughter of Cody and Kelsey Rose of Nicollet.
The Miss Nicollet Talent Contest was held on Friday night in the theater at Nicollet Public School. Sydney Hulke, sponsored by the Courtland Fire Department and daughter of Corey and Kelly Hulke, won first place with her playing the piano; Jocelyn Wills, sponsored by ProGrowth Bank and daughter of Scott and Jody Wills, won second place with her presentation on her gymnastics jourLney; and Allison Laven, sponsored by the Nicollet Fire Department and daughter of Justin and Brenda Laven, won 3rd place with her presentation of her mission trip to Alaska.
Saturday evening the coronation of our new Miss Nicollet was held in the park. Allison Laven was crowned Miss Nicollet and Jocelyn Wills and Sydney Hulke were crowned as princesses.
Each day's activities ended with many enjoying the live music in the park provided by Smokescreen on Friday night and GTX on Saturday night.
Sunday's excitement always centers around the parade. It was followed by more park activities and music by the Winona Little Warriors Drumline, the Schell's Hobo Band, and DJ on stage before ending the weekend's activities.
Brad Pyan, Commander of American Legion 510, said, "Everything has gone good for Friendship Days. Just a change of time for some activities due to the weather. This is the first year that the Legion members did Friendship Days with the community's help. The Legion members are getting older and older so it's getting harder and harder to do this type of event. We needed to look for help within the community. We are still hoping for even more participation in the future. Sponsorship seems to be always great. We have some great event sponsors, generous supporters, advertisers, and many volunteers to make the weekend happen for the Nicollet community. Many people spent a lot of time, energy, and money to make this a success. A big thank you to all."
