“The Original German Band” plays opening night of the 2023 Music in the Park series.

NEW ULM — Monday night kicked off New Ulm’s Music in the Park concerts at German Park.

Cars were lined up and down German street to enjoy the performance by “The Original German Band”. The ampitheater was filled with excited viewers, many of whom regularly attend the concerts. One of the attendees was Becky Gersch.

“What I like most is the community gathering. That and the relaxing entertainment that it brings,” Gersch said.

Gersch was accompanied by her mother Mae Pufpaff. The Music in the Park event is not only for adults, but children too. Rec on the Go hosts games for children to play before the concerts at 6 p.m. Along with the games, the fan-favorite Puppet Wagon will also be at German Park each Monday before the concerts.

“The Original German Band” is no stranger to the Music in the Park performances, kicking off the summer concerts for a number of years before. The band itself was founded in 1985. If you missed Monday’s concert, not to worry. Music in the Park will take place every Monday at 7 pm until August 28, with next week’s performance being the “Concord Singers”.
