Jail camera proposal approved

NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners unanimously approved a jail camera proposal and related jail security improvements Tuesday, May 16.

Commissioners approved a proposal by UHL Company of Maple Grove to add two iPro cameras in dayroom F to get cell area and shower coverage for $4,994. Brown County would supply all necessary network connections, one for each camera, plus a static or reserved IP address for each device.

Dayroom F is a housing unit for disciplinary and special watch inmates with padded cells and transitions to a normal cell that is also used for disciplinary inmates.

A proposal by UHL to expand the door (lock) portal count from 64 to 128, which allows additional access doors to be added for future expansion, for $4,413 was approved.

Commissioners approved a UHL proposal to add badge access to nine sherriff’s office doors for $26,605.

Brown County would supply all necessary network connections plus a static or reserved IP address for each device and any necessary standard electrical outlets. The items are in the sheriff’s office budget.

Commissioners unanimously approved authorizing an updated two-year Redwood-Cottonwood Rivers Control Area (RCRCA) Joint Powers Agreement, motion by Commissioner Brian Braun, seconded by Scott Windschitl.

Effective July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2025, the agreement purpose is to develop and implement plans regarding protection of property from flood damage, sedimentation and pollution, controlling land erosion, maintaining and improving water quality in streams, lakes and ground water and improving recreational and wildlife in accordance with Minnesota statutes.

Counties in the RCRCA are Brown, Cottonwood, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, Redwood and Yellow Medicine.
