Kathleen Backer receives MALHM Lifetime Achievement Award

AUSTIN -- The Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums honored Kathleen Backer of New Ulm with a Lifetime Achievement Award at its Annual Meeting and Conference on April 27. The event was held at the Austin Conference Center in Austin.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions and demonstrated leadership to Minnesota's history community on a regional, statewide, or national level with a time service requirement of 25 years or more.
Backer was honored for her years of service to the Brown County Historical Society, Minnesota Agricultural Interpretive Center, and organizations across the region.
"This focus on good management should not detract from her love of history. It is at the root of what she does," according to Daniel Hoisington's letter of critical testimony. "Her love of history shows in a ready willingness to sit down and share a good story, whether it be about her ancestors - early settlers of New Ulm - or the history of bars, bands, bread, and beer - big stuff in New Ulm!"
The Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums, organized in 1991, is a statewide organization that nurtures and encourages an appreciation of the local history in the state of Minnesota. More information on the organization can be found at www.mnhistoryalliance.org.
