NEW ULM -- Excavation for the new shelter at Junior Pioneer Park began Wednesday.

Junior Pioneer Park is privately owned by The Junior Pioneers of New Ulm. The park serves as a gathering place to celebrate the shared heritage of Junior Pioneer members. The land was formally purchased in 1923. Construction of the shelter marks the 100th anniversary of Junior Pioneer ownership.

The goal is to complete the shelter construction by late fall of this year.
