NEW ULM -- The Minnesota River level at New Ulm was observed at 804.79 feet at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, April 23, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service.
The river was observed at moderate flood stage, 805.3 feet Saturday. It is forecast to slowly fall to minor flood stage – 804 feet – by late Tuesday morning and continue to drop this week. Flood stage is 800 feet.
Historic New Ulm crests are 811.03 feet on April 9, 1997, 809.44 feet on April 15, 1969 and 808.3 feet on April 16, 2001. Recent high crest was 807.56 feet on April 2, 2019.
The Cottonwood River at New Ulm was observed at 9.93 feet at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 23. The river was observed at 11.51 feet – minor flood stage – on Friday, April 21. Flood stage is 11 feet. The Cottonwood river level is forecast to gradually fall this week.
Flood warnings continue for both rivers until further notice in New Ulm, plus the Minnesota River at Henderson and State Highway 19, near Jordan, Savage, Granite Falls and Highway 212, at Montevideo and Morton.
Other river flood warnings include the Mississippi River at Fridley, Highway 169 in Champlin, at Red Wing, St. Paul, near Hastings, and at St. Cloud; the Sauk River in St. Cloud, South Fork Crow River at Delano and below Mayer, and the Crow River at Rockford.
