Chilly winds lead to mostly mobile St. Patrick’s Day Parade

NEW ULM -- The frigid temperatures were no match Friday for Irish determination as the 58th annual New Ulm St. Patrick's Day Parade proceeded up Minnesota Street.
The temperature never got above 10 degrees all day and by the time the parade began an icy sleet was blowing through downtown New Ulm. Those walking in the parade head directly into the wind.
Longtime parade participants and some spectators believe this may have been the coldest St. Patrick's Day parade on record. Many chose to travel the parade route inside a vehicle, but a few die hards walked the seven blocks from 3rd South to 4th North, led by the New Ulm Honor Guard and several members of the Narren.
Several spectators gathered along Minnesota to wish them well.
The New Ulm St. Patrick's Day parade may be relatively short, but it has the honor of being the oldest continuous St. Patrick's parade in Minnesota.
Following the parade the traditional "Gathering of the Clans" convened inside "Jan's Pub" (the Kaiserhoff) for food, spirits, conviviality and entertainment from the O'Concord Singers.
