Northwestern Mutual-Minneapolis appoints new managing director of Lake Elmo District Office

Sarah Walter

MINNEAPOLIS – Northwestern Mutual, a leading financial security company, recently announced the appointment of Sarah Walter to serve as a managing director of the company’s Lake Elmo district office, effective Jan. 1.

As managing director, Walter, a native of Springfield, will lead the office in its efforts to attract talent, develop leaders and help families and businesses reach their financial goals within Lake Elmo, Woodbury, and surrounding communities in the East Metro.

“I jumpstarted my career directly out of college as a financial representative, and since then, I’ve had the opportunity of working in a variety of positions within the company,” said Walter. “The roles I’ve served in have uniquely positioned me to understand different perspectives and help the financial advisors I am privileged to lead.”

Growing up in Springfield, Walter graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in finance and began her career at Northwestern Mutual as a financial representative in Edina. This April, Walter will celebrate her 20th anniversary with Northwestern Mutual.

During her tenure, Walter has served in several leadership roles, including as the office’s first chief growth offier. Now, Walter is among the 21 percent of U.S. women in the financial service sector who holds a senior leadership role.

Additionally, Walter is an active member of the community through her work with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital. Walter is a member of the Women’s Leadership Council of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. She has also been honored twice as a Finance & Commerce Top Women in Finance, an award that recognizes the outstanding efforts of women in Minnesota who are making noteworthy contributions to their professions and communities in a male-dominated industry.
