Broadband grants awarded for Redwood Co. fiber networks

REDWOOD FALLS — The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development announced State Border to Border Broadband Development Grants Dec. 8 for fiber networks in ten Redwood County cities.

Internet service providers Arvig and Hanson Communications were among grant recipients for residential and businesses in Belview, Clements, Lamberton, Morgan, Revere, Seaforth, Vesta, Wabasso, Walnut Grove, Wanda.

Redwood County Board Chairman Jim Salfer said with completion of projects every Redwood County city and the Lower Sioux Indian Community will be served by a fiber network by 2026. Salfer said some township sites are left to be served but the Redwood County Economic Development Authority remains committed to reaching the goal that everyone can access high-speed internet.

The Border to Border Development Grant program provides financial support to invest in building broadband infrastructure in unserved and underserved parts of the state. The $95 millon grant cycle used $25 million in state general revenue funds and $70 million in Capital Projects Funds.
