Sleepy Eye FFA excels at State Fair

A Grand Champion award for Destiney Dittbenner was one of numerous highlights for the Sleepy Eye Future Farmers of America Chapter at the 2022 Minnesota State Fair.

Dittbenner won top award in the Introductory Metal division in the Agricultural Technology Competition for her toolbox entry.

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was once again well represented at the fair.

Nine members participated in the new Chapter Demonstration Competition. Eleven members participated in the Agricultural Technology Competition and 134 members entered 542 crop exhibits for the Crop Show.

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter earned the first place Premier Chapter Award for the Minnesota State Fair Crop Show, with a total of 2,238 points, with the second-place chapter getting 924 points.

Sleepy Eye has won the Minnesota State Fair Crops Competition 13 times in the last 15 years.

Crop Show exhibitors who earned placings were Carson Uecker, the high-point new exhibitor; Jacob Schultz, third place; Jon Peterman, fourth place; Adam Johnson, fifth place; and Jasmine Peterman, 10th place.

Lucia Martinez placed third in the Commercial Beef Yearling Heifer division and third in Beef Herdsmanship.

The chapter placed fifth overall in the Agricultural Technology Competition and was the Grand Champion winner with its Safety Carnival presenting farm safety demonstrations, and was awarded a $1,500 premium.
