Fire at Lamplighter destroys kitchen; restaurant closed indefinitely

A kitchen fire at the Lamplighter bar and grill reported at 12:49 a.m. Friday morning has closed the restaurant indefinitely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, said New Ulm Fire Chief Paul Macho in a press release.

Macho said the New Ulm Fire Department and New Ulm Police Department were dispatched to 214 N. Minnesota St. for smoke coming from the Lamplighter building.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke was coming from the building. NUFD had the fire under control in approximately 45 minutes.

There were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The New Ulm Fire Department and New Ulm Police Department were on scene for approximately 3 1/2 hours. NUFD and NUPD were assisted by the State Fire Marshal.
