WINTHROP– The 2022 Farm City Fun Fest was in Winthrop over the weekend with dozens of events happening across the community.

On Sunday, the city park was host to the 20th Annual Car Show. Car Show coordinator Wyatt Kiel said they anticipated around 200 vehicles. Within the first hours over 100 vehicles were registered. The vehicles came all over the region. Other vehicles came from as far away as Deerwood, north of Millie Lacs Lake. Several of the vehicles at the show attended New Ulm’s Autofest two weeks ago.

The car show featured a variety of vehicle styles for every era, but each vehicle had an owner that appreciated the craft.

Carol Ulrich brought her 1956 Ford Parklane station wagon to the show. Ulrich said Ford never made another Parklane and is a vehicle she always liked. She was fortunate to find one for sale with a green paint scheme five years ago. Very little work was needed on the vehicle, except for some interior work.

Another standout vehicle was the 1965 Chevy Corvette owned by Merlin Benson. Benson had owned the vehicle two years ago after seeing it for sale near Minnetonka. He said this particular Corvette was extremely rare because it came with an air conditioner and a convertible top. There were only about 800 of those produced.

The car show experienced a minor weather scare around noon. Despite light rain in the early morning, the weather was nearly perfect most of the day, but around noon a dark storm cloud appeared. A slight drizzle began to fall and several classic car owners scrambled to roll up windows and put convertible tops back up.

Ultimately, only a few rain drops fell. The storm skirted past Winthrop and left blue skies in time for the Farm City Fun Fest 2 p.m. parade.
