Renville sheriff identifies two bodies recovered in Minnesota River

RENVILLE COUNTY — Police released the names of the men recovered in two separate Minnesota River recoveries on Sunday.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office reported the body of Matthew James Wrobleski, 48, of Willmar, was located and recovered after the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 2:58 p.m. Sunday from an individual who reported finding what he believed to be a body caught in a logjam on the river between Franklin and Morton.

The body was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office of identification and investigation into the cause and manner of the death.

The sheriff’s office received a 911 call at 5:23 p.m. Sunday from a person reporting a person drowning in the Minnesota River, several miles upstream, near Vicksburg County Park, south of Renville.

Emergency responders learned a young man was with family and swimming in the river without a life jacket when he began to struggle in the water. Emergency responders launched several boats to search for the man and found Lance Edward Scheer, 19, of Redwood Falls.

Scheer was transported to CentraCare-Redwood Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Responding agencies included the Renville, Redwood and Lyon County Sheriff’s Offices, the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR, Renville, Granite Falls, Belview and Redwood Falls fire departments, CentraCare-Redwood Falls and Granite Falls Ambulance and North Air Care.

Both incidents remain under investigation by the Renville County Sheriff’s Office.
