Kaiserhoff’s new owner plans no big changes

NEW ULM — The Kaiserhoff has a new owner in Herb Knutson, who acquired the restaurant on March 31.

Knutson is already the owner of the Lamplighter, located across the street from the Kaiserhoff.

“The number one reason I acquired the Kaiserhoff is that it is important to the town,” Knutson said “It will remain the same instead of someone else taking over and creating a different bar.”

Knutson acknowledged that since the Kaiserhoff was across the street from his other restaurant, it was a convenient arrangement.

The same staff will remain with the Kaiserhoff.

Jill Sellner will remain at the Kaiserhoff and Jan Veigel will continue to help.

Patrons to the Kaiserhoff are unlikely to notice any changes to the bar and restaurant. There is a plan to open out the south portion of the building, including the Wilhelmina Room.

Knutson said the plan was to use this place for an extra bar room, music and event rental space. He believed the room could be used for small weddings or other similar events. Anyone interested in renting the space can call the Kaiserhoff.

There is a plan to have live music in the space on Fridays. Bingo and meat raffles will be held on Saturdays.

Knutson said Kaiserhoff will be getting expanded hours. After Easter, the restaurant will be open on Sundays and Wednesdays.

The changing ownership will not impact the Lamplighter.

Knutson said he had great help at both locations. Becky Portner and Brandan Roeger will continue to help run the Lamplighter.
