NEW ULM–New Ulm’s Own Fair Trade market is taking donation for the International Rescue Committee to help the people of Ukraine.

Jeanie Hinsman, New Ulm’s Own founder, said the International Rescue Committee will provide resources to the people impacted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The organizations will provide blankets, clothes, translations services, money and other resources to help those displaced by the conflict.

The International Rescue Committee has a 90 year history as a resettlement agency and was founded by Albert Einstein.

Hinsman said more than four million Ukrainians have fled their country, and seven million still remain but were displaced from their home.

The need for assistance is great.

“We’ve already received $1,000 in donations,” Hinsman said. “That’s just through word of mouth.”

New Ulm’s Own is hoping to receive more donations over the week. As a thank you for those who donate, New Ulm’s Own is giving donors a gift of either a stained glass Ukrainian flag or a suncatchers.

The flags and suncatchers were made with glass supplied by Mike Mason Sleepy Eye Glass and by Vicki Sieve, Karen Sieve and Deb Pribyl.

New Ulm’s Own is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Starting at $4.65/week.
