Dist. 84 board gets 2021 audit, Dashir reports
Two students in COVID-19 isolation
SLEEPY EYE – The District 84 Board of Education heard a 2021 audit report, a Dashir Management Services report plus a COVID-19 update Wednesday.
Superintendent John Cselovszki said one elementary and one high school student tested positive for COVID-19 recently and are in isolation.
Cselovszki said the elementary gym scoreboard is on its last leg and a new $9,100 scoreboard is expected to arrive in February 2022. In the meantime, a “loaner” scoreboard will be installed for $1,000.
The board unanimously approved the 2021-23 confidential employees master agreement with 2.25% salary hikes each year and $750 and $500 one-time money for the first and second year.
The board approved head girls basketball coach Sarah Hesse and boys head coach Shane Heiderscheidt at $4,717; assistant girls coach Cory Haala, and assistant boys coach Brandon Streich at $3,599; junior high girls coach Kylie Koerner and boys coach Grant Romberg, $2,498. More coaches may be hired if player numbers require it.
Donations accepted by the board included $5,000 to the Future Farmers of America from Bill and Julie Ries and $2,000 from the Sleepy Eye Lions Club for Elementary Biz Town transportation.
Eide Bailly accountant Jamie Fay said the school district got $750,000 in federal money, mostly to be used for lunches. Cselovszki said free lunches are to be provided by the school for the next five years.
Fay said the school district received $7.8 million and spent $7.4 million in fiscal year 2021 and has a $2.75 million unrestricted fund balance which is above the state school district average.
Dashir Facilities Management Manger Doug Domeier said the school improvements over the past year include new roofing installed by Laraway Roofing, a weight room dehumidifier, new boys locker room flooring, two new Family and Consumer Science class electric ovens, and media center bookshelves.
Terry Etter was approved as a long-term substitute from Oct. 27 to Dec. 22, 2021, 37 days at $8,407.50.
