NEW ULM — The New Ulm Public Library is remembering Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a special poster exhibit.

The exhibit was made possible through a partnership with the American Library Association and the national 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City in observance of the 20th anniversary of the attack. The exhibit includes images and personal stories of people on the day as well as the aftermath of the attacks and the effect it still has 20 years later.

Programming and Technology Service Librarian LeRoy Nosker Tanner said the poster images as well as digital information were available for free to the library.

He said the exhibit is used as part of education. After 20 years, many have grown up since it happened.

Tanner said since the display had gone up, parents and grandparents have brought kids and grandkids to see the posters to help educate them. There have also been high school students visiting the display for school projects.

For those who were old enough to remember, the 9/11 terrorist attacks are vivid memories of what happened that day and beyond. Tanner said in assembling the poster display he was struck by how much emotion it brought back for him. It was especially powerful to read what happened to other people.

The poster display features several stories of people’s experiences during the attack. The names of the victims are placed in bold. The posters also include events information on the subsequent war on terror.

Along with the posters, the library received digital information from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The information provides additional resources for classroom education and at-home activities.

Saturday, the day of the 20th anniversary, the New Ulm Library will post links on its Facebook page to the 9/11 digital archive that includes collections of accounts of the event. Another link from the Smithsonian will be provided. The Smithsonian is seeking to gather stories from the public of their 9/11 experiences.

The poster exhibit was gifted to New Ulm Public Library. It can be used again for future programming. It will remain on display at the library through September.

Starting at $4.50/week.
