Redwood Falls woman dies in crash

REDWOOD FALLS — A 92-year-old Redwood Falls woman died in a five-vehicle chain reaction crash on U.S. Highway 71 in Redwood Falls Township, Redwood County, reported at 11:14 a.m. Wednesday by the Minnesota State Patrol.

Mary Ann Olson of Redwood Falls died of injuries from the crash after being transported to North Memorial Medical Center. She was driving a 2015 Kia Optima and wore a seat belt.

Ten people had non-life threatening injuries in the crash involving all vehicles northbound on Highway 71. Olson, a 2010 Ford Edge driven by Emmalene S. Gylsen, 15, Alexandria; and a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Alfred A. Hoogland, 79, Edgerton, were all stopped for a Minnesota Department of Transportation flagger.

Amber J. Wolmutt, 34, Lamberton, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban when she tried to slow down for the same flagger and was rear-ended by Jay D. Klabunde, driving a 2013 Freightliner semi tractor, causing the chain reaction crash.

Passengers in the Gylsen vehicle taken to a Redwood Falls hospital were Lillyana D. Gleson, 9, Kimberly Hockert Gylsen, 49; and Leroy E. Gylsen, 58, all of Alexandria.

Others taken to the hospital were Lois T. Hoogland, 76, Edgerton; Faith D. Luckhardt, 2, Lacie L. Luckhardt, 4; and Raini K. Luckhardt, 4; all of Lamberton. Klabunde was not injured. Alcohol was not involved.

Assisting agencies were the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, the Redwood Falls Fire Dept., Centra Care, Morgan and Wabasso Ambulance and North Air Care.
