Artists wanted for downtown mural

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Downtown Action team is calling on local artists or artist teams to create a mural in the city’s historic downtown.

The mural would be located at 1st North and North Minnesota Streets on the exterior wall of the Nuvera building for visitors to see in the downtown area. The work of art will be displayed in a framed 20′ by 80′ on a printed billboard material.

Mural themes could include, New Ulm Fashion since the city’s foundation, the history of beer in New Ulm, the US-Dakota War of 1862, heritage and history of New Ulm, New Ulm attractions, a day in New Ulm, New Ulm now and then, Inclusion or New Ulm typography.

Any interested artists are encouraged to apply. There will be an initial review by the mural committee. The artists selected from the initial review will then be invited to present renderings and detailed work proposals, including project timelines, and a budget. The selected artist(s) will receive a grant to assist with project-related expenses, such as supplies, materials, liability insurance, and artist’s fees.

The application as due by 4 p.m. July 15. The application should include a letter of interest, artist resume, examples of past work, an annotated list describing previous projects and support materials.
