SLEEPY EYE -- Sleepy Eye Public School Superintendent John Cselovszki said at Wednesday’s board meeting that the school will return to daily in-person learning for all students on Monday, March 1.
He said seventh and eighth-graders will return to daily, in-person learning on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
“We have only a couple students in (COVID-19) quarantine and one student in isolation,” said Cselovszki. “This is the lowest number of students there since COVID-19 began.”
Several board members voiced optimism about returning to daily, in-person learning for high school students instead of a hybrid model that has been followed since school began last fall.
Cselovszki said about a dozen students are using virtual learning.
He voiced enthusiasm for getting 68 to 70% of all school employees plus school bus drivers for receiving their first COVID-19 vaccination shots last week.
Cselovszki said high school saliva COVID-19 testing continues every two weeks.
Action items moved on a motion by board member Casey Coulson, seconded by Bryan Sellner included hiring Sarah Rossing to provide home-bound instruction, para professional Samantha Eastvold and library assistant Angela Tauer, designating a Powermatic Model 201 planar as excess surplus, and supporting the nomination of District 84 board chairwoman Darla Remus to the South Central Service Cooperative board.
Approved open enrollments included three in from Springfield and one out to Comfrey.
Approved donations included $19.41 from the Charities Aid Foundation to benefit elementary fundraisers and $19.41 to benefit high school Positive Behavior Initiatives and Supports(PBIS).
