SE Holiday Lights viewers asked to avoid busiest times

SLEEPY EYE — Through Dec. 6, more than 7,000 vehicles has toured the Sleepy Eye Holiday Lights Display in Sportsman’s Park on the northeast corner of Sleepy Eye Lake.

“The Sleepy Eye Holiday Lights In Motion Board has been moved by the overwhelming turnout we had so far this season,” said Shari Hittesdorf in a Dec. 8 email.

“We would like to remind our guests the park is open 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday,” read the email. “As you near the park entrance, tune in 89.1 FM to begin enjoying the show.”

Hittesdorf said during busy times when traffic is backed up on State Highway 4, it may be rerouted to the Divine Providence Community Home service road east of the lake, so traffic can be directed to the park entrance in a controlled manner.

“This has been recommended to us by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and we feel it’s our safest option,” read the email.

“Our busiest times are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.,” continued the email. “To avoid lines, we suggest coming during the week or after 8 p.m. We are grateful to all who have visited the event and hope it brings some joy to your life during this trying time.”

Starting at $4.50/week.
