NEW ULM -- Fun-loving motorcycle enthusiasts seemed to be enjoying the outdoors, family and friends at the Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club hillclimb Sunday.
"It's great to see our club come out and support everybody at this. This is our big event for the year," said club member Randy Kraus.
"It's interesting to be part of the club, help set up for this and watch everybody that comes out," said Les Stadick.
Talking to club members at the grounds, none of the ones interviewed said they attended the Sturgis, S.D. motorcycle rally this year, although most of them said they attended the event in previous years.
They turned out enmass for the hillclimb.
It's a family affair for many competitors.
Chad Mack of New Ulm raced up the hill with his four boys, Damon 17, Cameron 11, Easton 8 and Hudson 4.
"It's a family thing," Chad Mack said. "We enjoy hill climbs in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin and like going to the nationals too."
Chad Mack was fifth in the Flying Dutchmen hill climb open class last year.
Jason Braun of Sleepy Eye and his son Kaden maintained family tradition too.
Kaden finished second in the 65cc division at last year's hill climb. He was clocked in 9.451 seconds. Just ahead of Cameron Mack at 9.461 seconds. Easton Mack was third last year.
In the mini junior class last year, Cameron Mack was fourth in 9.153.
Easton Mack was third in the micro mini last year, going 110 feet.
Jason Braun was third in the 600 cc class last year, fifth in 250 cc and eighths in 600 cc King of The Hill.
"It's fast," Jason Braun said after climbing the hill Sunday.
He's been competing in hillclimbs since 1991 when he was 12. Kaden Braun has been hillclimbing since he was four years old. He finished second among about 20 competitors at a Mankato hillclimb Saturday.
The Brauns compete in other hill climbs in Red Wing, which is next weekend, and in Bay City and Hixton, Wis.
Jason Braun has competed in hill climbs as far away as Billings, Mont., considered the hill climb capital of the world. Last year, he placed 17 among about 100 competitors in his division in Billings.
"It keeps us together," Jason Braun said about motorcycle hill climbs.
Sunday's Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club hill climb results will be published when they are received.
