Water tower on the rise

The new Courtland water tower was erected behind the 1938 tower. The old tower will remain in place until the new tower is fully operational.

COURTLAND — Courtland’s skyline will temporarily feature two water towers.

The town’s new water tower went up Monday but has not been connected yet. The old water tower, built in 1938 will continue in service until the new tower is fully online.

Courtland Public Works employee Dave Ubl said the old tower was still in good shape but its capacity could not meet Courtland’s population. The old tower held 50,000 gallons of water and the new tower has a 150,000 capacity.

Further work is needed on the new water tower before it is fully operational. This includes additional paint on the base and lettering in the city name.
