Local hobbyist completes aerial bridge model

NEW ULM -- Local miniature hobbyist Jerome Sellner recently finished a model of the Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth.
In real-life, the bridge is 226 feet high and 501 feet long. Sellner managed to create a version that fits on a coffee table.
Sellner said the lift bridge model was mostly completed in February. One of the greatest challenges was to power the lift of the bridge. He said it took four tries to find the right motor to power it. A rechargeable battery powers the motor and LED lights on the side of the bridge.
Sellner said he was willing to take the bridge on tour to show friends and family, but the COVID-19 pandemic has everyone on lockdown.
This is the first time Sellner has constructed a model bridge, but he has dozens of other miniatures in his collection since he took up the hobby 14 years ago. Many of his minis are of farming implements, but he has taken requests over the years. The lift bridge was made for his grandson Alex Stanz.
