MVL announces ‘Spirit of MVL’ Award Winners

‘Spirit of MVL’ Banquet to be held Nov. 23 at Best Western Plus

Dean and Kaye Compart

NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School is celebrating the great number of people in our family, all with a heart for Christian education, with its Spirit of MVL events. This special evening will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Best Western Plus Conference Center in New Ulm.

The Recognition Reception will begin at 4 p.m. Eight Spirit of MVL award recipients are being recognized: Dean and Kaye Compart, Nicollet, Joe and Beth Holtmeier, Mankato, Robin and Carol Kramer, New Ulm and Jerry and Gwen Tjernagel, North Mankato.

Dean and Kaye Compart have served MVL in a variety of ways over the years. Dean is currently on the MVL Foundation board, and has previously served on the MVL Board of Directors. Dean and Kaye were active parents while their three children — Kyle, Michael, and Laura — were students at MVL. Dean was a statistician for football games. Dean and Kaye were co-chairs for the annual Booster Club Auction for four years. They continue to attend many MVL fundraising and school events. Dean and Kaye have been blessed with the resources to provide regular and generous financial support to Christian education at MVL. They have also provided in-kind donations through their family business in Nicollet, Compart Family Farms.

Joe and Beth Holtmeier, owners of Holtmeier Construction in Mankato, have revealed their love and support for MVL in very generous ways. Their trucks and employees completed the earthwork for the 2007 addition, created the cross country trail through the MVL property, completed the design and earthwork for the Palmer/MVL bus garage, provided crushed limestone for the softball field, and provided ag-lime for the baseball infield. They are in the process of building the 400 meter practice track with football field in the center. MVL snow removal is much easier with the use of the Holtmeier payloader. Joe and Beth have three children: Ethan is a freshman at MVL and Brianna and Dylan are alumni.

Robin and Carol Kramer have been a part of the MVL family since its inception. Robin was a member of the first Board of Directors and now serves on the MVL Foundation board. Robin and Carol are the parents of Beth, Peter, Noel, Aaron, and Ross. Four grandchildren are currently attending MVL and two have recently graduated. They can be seen at many MVL fundraising and school events and continue to support the school they helped start 40 years ago.

Jerry and Gwen Tjernagel have supported MVL through all the years of its existence. Gwen was one of the first student transportation providers, driving the Mankato-New Ulm route. She also maintained their household while Jerry spent many hours as an MVL volunteer. Jerry was the “25 and Growing” capital campaign chair, served two terms on the Board of Directors, was integral to the “Faith, Family, Future” debt reduction campaign, and drafted the original MVL personnel policies. Jerry and Gwen have been seen at almost all of the MVL fundraising events as faithful supporters of the mission of MVL. They are the proud parents of three children: Andy, Beth, and Becky.
