NEW ULM — The public is invited to the program “Reminiscing about the Prohibition Era with Denny Warta” on, Thursday, June 27t, in the Museum Annex at 7 p.m. (The museum annex is located just north of the museum.) This program complements the exhibit “Wet Stills and Dry Agents: Brown County and the Prohibition Years.” The museum will be open from 6 to 7 p.m. that evening for visitors to view the exhibit prior to the presentation. Admission is free, donations will be appreciated.

Warta will tell tales about prohibition in Brown County as shared with him. He says he was too young to remember Prohibition but was friends with people old enough to remember. He will tell about moonshiners, suspected connections to Al Capone and much more.

“Wet Stills and Dry Agents: Brown County and the Prohibition Years” highlights Brown County’s experiences during Prohibition. The exhibit discusses the attitudes of people in Brown County toward Prohibition, the effects it had on Brown County’s three operating breweries, and the ways in which people ignored or bypassed the 18th Amendment. In addition, visitors will learn how Prohibition was passed in a country that made, brewed, and distilled hundreds of millions of gallons of wine, beer, and liquor.

This exhibit will be on display through May 2020 on the second floor of the Brown County Historical Society’s museum.
