• James Reed Stenquist, 50, Minnesota St. N., New Ulm, was charged with gross misdemeanor fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct-non-consensual sexual contact Jan. 11.

• Christine Nicole Smith, 38, 712 South Front Street, New Ulm, was charged Jan. 9 with gross misdemeanor motor vehicle registration-intent to escape tax, unregistered-certain acts forbidden, and speeding-exceed 30 mph limit-urban district.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police Patrolwoman Christina Wright was driving southbound on Front Street Jan. 2 when she got a squad radar reading on a 2006 silver Chevrolet sedan traveling 42 mph in a 30 mph zone. Officer Wright stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Smith with a registered black Chrysler PT Cruiser. Smith said she sold the PT Cruiser. Officer Wright told her that her Chevrolet vehicle registration was expired.

Smith called the department of motor vehicles while at the traffic stop and learned her 2006 Chevrolet vehicle registration expired in June 2023.
