Court Proceedings

Brown County District Court

• Travis Dale Mellen, 41, Mankato, was charged with felony domestic abuse; violates two or more OFP (Orders for Protection) within ten years of the first of two or more previous qualified domestic violence-related offense convictions or adjudications or adjudications of delinquency.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police were dispatched to New Ulm address at 7:06 p.m. Dec. 28 for a report of yelling and screaming with a man who said he was going to hang himself. A witness told dispatch that two parties involved were a victim and Mellen.

New Ulm Police Cpl. Mathew Rasmussen talked to the victim who said Mellen came to her apartment a couple days ago and there is an active OFP between them served on Mellen Oct. 12, 2023. The woman said Mellen was suicidal and “acting paranoid.”

The woman was not harmed during the incident but said Mellen was yelling at her before he left her apartment.

Officers were called to the same residence at 9:22 p.m. Dec. 28 as the woman called 911 and said Mellen was at her door. She said Mellen asked her for his coat and cell phone. Multiple officers responded to the residence but did not locate Mellen.

Mellen was convicted of misdemeanor domestic assault in Blue Earth County Court on Jan. 23, 2018 and of gross misdemeanor domestic assault in Brown County Court on July 6, 2020.
