Court Proceedings

Brown County

District Court

• Two felony domestic assault charges were filed Thursday against Randy Thomas Zimmerman, 44, 51846 CR 21, Courtland. An initial court appearance was set for 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police were dispatched to Emerson Union Apartments at 1:02 a.m. Dec. 13 for an unwanted party in an apartment that became a physical domestic call. Cpl. Chris Davis met the female victim, who reported the incident, outside the apartment building. Patrolman Cory Lyons later arrived to assist.

The woman said her ex-boyfriend, Zimmerman, left in an unknown vehicle after they argued all day. The woman said she ended the relationship that included living together and asked Zimmerman to remove his property from her apartment.

She said as Zimmerman gathered his property and was leaving, head-butted her in the face and hit her on her right cheek with a shoe in the hallway. It appeared the woman’s right cheek had a makeup smear. She refused medical attention, but said her lip hurt and lifted it. There appeared to be several, small red marks on the inside of her lip.

Officer Davis called Zimmerman who said the woman threw items as he was trying to remove his property and “brushed” by him. Zimmerman denied hitting the woman with a shoe but carried shoes over his shoulder that may have hit her when he was in the hallway.

Zimmerman had two prior qualified domestic-related convictions including fifth-degree assault Jan. 20, 2015 in Nicollet county and misdemeanor domestic assault earlier this year in Brown County Court.
